Pity and the 50/50 guarantee carry over from one banner to the next of the same type, so a reader at 60 pity when a banner ends starts the next one at 60. A 4-star is guaranteed every 10 wishes on every banner. The character and weapon banners keep separate counters: wishing on one never moves the other.

7 questionsWhat is pity in Genshin Impact?
Pity is the count of wishes since your last 5-star on a banner. On the character banner a 5-star is guaranteed by wish 90, and from wish 74 (soft pity) the chance climbs by about 6% a wish, which is why most 5-stars land between wishes 74 and 80. Pity carries over between banners of the same type and never resets when a banner ends.
How many wishes do you need for a featured 5-star character?
From zero pity and no guarantee: 93 wishes on average, 80 for a 50% chance and 155 for 90%. The worst case is 180 wishes (28,800 primogems): hard pity twice after losing the 50/50.
How many wishes for C6 in Genshin Impact?
Seven copies of a featured character take 654 wishes on average (104,640 primogems), 801 for a 90% chance, and 1,260 in the worst case.
How does the 50/50 work, and what is Capturing Radiance?
Your first 5-star on a character banner has a 50% chance of being the featured character. Lose it and the next 5-star is guaranteed to be featured; the guarantee carries over to later character banners. Capturing Radiance, added in version 5.0, can turn a lost 50/50 into a win; HoYoverse does not publish its rate, so this calculator counts the 50/50 at a flat 50% and never overstates your odds.
How does pity work on the weapon banner?
The weapon banner reaches a 5-star by wish 80 at the latest (in practice by 77, as soft pity starts at 63). Two weapons share the 75% featured rate, so the one you chart on the Epitomized Path comes up 37.5% of the time, and a single miss fills the path: the next 5-star is the charted weapon. The charted weapon takes 87 wishes on average and 154 at most.
How many primogems is a guaranteed 5-star character?
14,400 primogems (90 wishes) guarantee a 5-star, and 28,800 (180 wishes) guarantee the featured one from zero pity. With the guarantee already active, 14,400 is enough.
How accurate is this pity calculator?
The odds are computed exactly, not simulated: every possible sequence of wishes is counted. The rate model uses HoYoverse’s published base rates and hard pity, plus the soft-pity curve players measured over millions of wishes; that curve gives back HoYoverse’s published consolidated rates of 1.6% (character) and 1.85% (weapon), which is the check it has to pass.
